Mississippi Cranio Sacral Therapy Ban Lifted!

In late 2003, Massage Today reported that the Mississippi State Board of Massage Therapy (MSBMT) prohibited massage therapists from performing CranioSacral Therapy (CST) because it believed CST involved the manipulation or adjustment of osseous tissue. (See "CranioSacral Therapy Outlawed in Mississippi?") The Upledger Institute recently informed Massage Today that the situation has been resolved: "In 2003, we invited members of the MSBMT to attend a CST workshop so they could see for themselves that CST, as developed by Dr. John E. Upledger, does not involve osseous tissue manipulation. Two board members accepted the offer and attended the class. Shortly thereafter, The Upledger Institute applied to be a CEU provider for massage therapists taking CST in Mississippi. On Dec. 14, 2004, that application was approved by the MSBMT. We are now in the process of scheduling our first CST workshop there, which will most likely take place in the spring of 2006." In light of this development, Barb Richmond, Director of Community Relations for The Upledger Institute, issued a letter to the editor to correct information from an article that appeared in the March 2005 issue of Massage Today.
